11 in 11 Challenge

My goal for reading in 2011 is to read 11 (2011) different categories of books, and three books from each category.  Here are my categories:
1.  Historical Fiction
     ~The Soldier's Wife by Margaret Leroy
2.  Memoirs
     ~The Long Journey Home by Margaret Robison
3.  New Authors ~ meaning debut novels
     ~Baking Cakes in Kigali by Gaile Parkin
4.  Big Heavy ~ books with 500 or more pages
     ~I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb ~ finished 3/11/11
5.  Guilty Pleasure ~ I have to admit that I'm a sucker for chick lit
     ~Hungry For Happiness by James Villas ~ finished 1/3/11
     ~Odd Mom Out by Jane Porter ~ finished 1/29/11
     ~Life From Scratch by Melissa Ford ~ finished 2/3/11
6.  LT Early Review Books
     ~Minding Ben by Victoria Brown ~ finished 3/31/11
7.  LibraryThing Recommends ~ LibraryThing is a site I use to catalog the books I own and read
8.  Books from the 1001 books to read before you die list
9.  Classics
     ~Emma by Jane Austen ~ finished 1/12/11
10.  Mommy Book Club
     ~The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery ~ finished 3/21/11
     ~The Help by Katheryn Stockett ~ finished 4/8/11
     ~Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
11.  Food Lit ~ it can be fiction or non.
     ~Emperors of Chocolate by Joel Glenn Brenner ~ finished 1/24/11 
     ~Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl 
     ~Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

  1. For Historical Fiction, I recommend any of Kate Morton's books. I LOVE them! Esp. her first one, The House at Riverton.

  2. Love this challenge!!! I LOVE food lit. Some of my favorites are:

    Like Water for Chocolate-- hilarious, and has fabulous food descriptions-- mostly Mexican fare... which I love.

    Walking Across Egypt by Clyde Edgerton-- Also freakin hilarious, but has amazing descriptions of southern cooking. This book ALWAYS makes me hungry!!!
