"There's Spinach in This?" Smoothie

I've just about given up.  This child is apparently on a huger strike, with no real reason that's obvious.  She used to reliably eat grilled cheese, some vegetables, fish and macaroni and cheese.  Now we're lucky if she takes a bite out of her grilled cheese before chucking it across the room.  Because of this absolute refusal to eat anything good for her (she will still eat french fries and frozen Gogurt...we call it ice cream) B and I have become quite desperate to get the baby lady to consume anything that's somewhat healthy.

My friend Traci from Mrs. T's Eats was raving about her son drinking smoothies that had spinach in them.  Spinach!?!?!  How could a child possibly as picky as mine consume anything containing the leafy green vegetable that even I find hard to eat at times?  Well, the answer it seems, was pretty easily.  She loves these things.  I change up the fruits and even the yogurt flavors, and have only found one losing combination (strawberries, cherries and blueberries) but overall, I'm so glad that my baby lady will consistently consume something like this.
Ingredients:
1 c. organic yogurt (I use Stonyfield's French Vanilla or Banilla)
2 c. frozen fruit of your choice (I usually add about 1/2 c. of fresh strawberries on top of this, but it's not necessary)
1 ripe banana
2 T. ground flaxseed
handful of spinach
enough orange/apple juice or milk to make it the consistency you want

How:
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend.  Then enjoy watching your toddler gulp it greedily and laugh knowing what she's actually eating.  And then enjoy a glass yourself.

  1. This is a classic way to make kids eat vegi. One of my friend was telling me yesterday how she is getting worried because the baby won't eat anything green .. This might surely help :)Thanks for sharing !

  2. Evan loves these too, and I've been drinking one in the morning thanks to him. I've been sneaking his vitamins (for anemia) in there as well.

  3. Have you heard of "The Sneaky Chef"? Missy Lapine has a couple books. She purees all kinds of vegetables and then "sneaks" them into everything, hamburgers, eggs, meatloaf, mashed potatoes . . . may be sneaky but it gets the veggies in her kids (and her husband.)
